Attractions of Azar (November - December)
1- Wild sheep mating season: After wild goats, wild sheep's rut begins in Nov. and
Des in most parts of Iran. Harem rams will vigorously defend their ewes against
intrusions by other rams.


2- Common Crane: Among Three species of cranes in Iran this species migrate in large
flocks to the wetlands of the country. Mighan, Arjan and many small lakes, ponds
and even forms are the host of this magnificent creature.


3- Morteza'Ali springs: in the middle of central deserts of Iran near the city of
Tabas this fantastic valley with various springs is a suitable destination in this
season. The special phenomenon is occurring both warm and cold water springs nearby
each other.
4- Choqazanbil Temple (Ziggurat): This is one of 8 historical world heritages in
Iran. Located between Shoosh and Shooshtar cities in SW Iran, has fine weather in
this season. Ziggurat is a reminder of the new Elamite civilization, this temple
is based on 5 separate flours.


5- Mongoose: Iran has 2 species of Mongoose both in southern parts of the country.
They live near local communities and people do not harm them at all. They are respected
in many places because of eating snakes.

6- Miankaleh wildlife refuge: This Biosphere reserve and International wetland in
Mazandaran province in northern Iran is one of well-known bird watching sites. 204
species of birds including migratory and resident make a wonderful landscape for
nature-lovers in Nov. and Des.


7- Hengam Island: This small island in the Persian Gulf is one of the main fishery
sites in the region with near 800 locals living in completely traditional ways;
island is famous for its natural attractions too. Flocks of Dolphins coral reefs,
pleasing sandy beaches and also herds of Jebeer Gazelle makes the island one of
the best destinations during cold seasons. A special reptile named Egyptian Spiny-tailed
Lizard in living just in this island in Iran.


8- Nomads settling in winter quarters: Nomads in many parts of Iran has now settled
their tents and livestock in wintering places. The migration is to southern parts
of Iran in many occasions.

9- Hump-back Dolphin: This is one of 6 species of dolphins reported from Iranian
parts of Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. They occur in shallow, near shore waters, generally
less than 20m deep. The highest abundance in near Qeshm Island in Persian Gulf and
most of times they could be observed in large numbers.

10- Nayband marine national park: This is the first marine national park in Iran.
Coral reefs, Mangrove forests and in general rich biodiversity makes it a unique
costal area. Unfortunately oil industrial companies have caused pollution and habitat
loss in adjacent areas of the park.
