Observation of Egyptian vulture in Varjin P.A.
For the first time in Varjin protected Area-Tehran one individual Egyptian vulture
(Neophron percnopterus) was sighted.
This observation and photography was made by Arash Ghoddousi and Parhan Dibaj in
Zardband heights.This vulture has never been reported from northern parts of the
central Iran, although recently observed in Kavir National Park-Semnan. Varjin P.A.
with over 26000 ha is located in NE of Tehran (capital city of Iran) and has a wildlife
protection history of over 100 years. With 577 species of plants, the area has a
rich biodiversity. The well know species of wildlife of the area are Wild sheep
(best know for), Wild goat, Persian leopard, Wild boar, Wolf, Hyaena, Red fox, Stone
