Persian leopard status assessment meeting took place in S.B.U. - Tehran.
This lecture was managed during the trip of Dr. Igor Khorozyan to Iran and was attended
by many experts, scientists and enthusiasts.
On April 23 2008 in Roshd center of Shahid Beheshti University this meeting was
arranged from 9-12 with lectures by Dr. B. H. Kiabi, Dr. I. Khorozyan and introducing
the Persian leopard conservation project in Bamu National Park. Experts from Department
of the Environment head offices of Golestan, Tehran, Qom, East Azerbayjan and...
University lecturers and many enthusiast students were attended on that event.
On this meeting people discuss about new techniques for research and conservation
of Persian leopard throughout the region while knowing more about its status and
distribution in neighboring countries. Dr. I. Khorozyan is one of the most famous
activists of Persian leopard in the world and was invited by the Plan for the Land
Society and Biological research center of Shahid Beheshti University for a 10 days
visit to Iran including a field trip to Bamu National Park and two lectures during
his stay.
Persian leopard in among the largest subspecies of world leopards which occurs in
Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Turkey and the Caucasus region countries with the
core population in Iran. Unfortunately its status is endangered due to poaching
and prey decreasing. Persian leopard survives in mountainous areas of Iran from
dense forests to arid areas wherever the sufficient prey is present.
