Biodiversity day celebration in Khafr village
21st of May has been dedicated globally to celebration of Biodiversity and this
year in Khafr village with collaboration of Conservation of Biodiversity in Central
Zagros (CBCZ), Plan for the Land Society, Sabz Yaran Dena NGO, Isfahan office of
Department of the Environment (Isfahan DoE), United Nation’s Development program
(UNDP) and The GEF Small Grants programme (SGP).
This event was held in central mosque of Khafr village with lecture of different
governmental officers and regional environmental NGOs.
Mr. Mousavi the spokesperson of Khafr villagers started the program by greeting
the attendance and talking on beautiful nature of Dena area, some complaints on
lack of appropriate activities in CBCZ for collaboration of local communities in
nature protection projects despite the high capacities. Then Mr. Lahidjan’zadeh
Head of Isfahan DoE and Dr. Farhat Head of CBCZ explained their one year proposed
projects in the region.
Dr. Ferdowsi programme analyst of Energy, Environment and Disaster Management Cluster
of UNDP was the next person who focused on importance of public participation and
collaboration in Biodiversity protection activities in his speech and clarified
the goals, results and failures in such projects in Iran. The spokesperson of Agricultural
Ministry of Isfahan province, Semirom city Parliament member and Semirom Governor
stated their views to the Biodiversity protection issue and their support and participation
in CBCZ in the past and future activities.
Indeed a local products and activities exhibition was arranged in the closing ceremony
with participation of Khafr villager and arrangements of Plan for the Land Society.
Local mountaineers group represented their experiences in Dena peaks ascend; Sabz
Yaran NGO (a local Khafr village NGO) presented their educational workshops. Khafr
Woman’s NGO introduced some of medical herbs of the Dena Mountain and other villagers
exhibit their rustic materials, tools and outfits as a cultural heritage which was
greatly encouraged by the spectators.
