Caspian Seal educational workshop
On September 3rd 2008 an educational workshop was held by Plan for the Land Society
in Tehran to discuss and assess threats to the Caspian Seal.
At the beginning, a pretest was organized to evaluate the depth of knowledge of
participants in Caspian environment and Seal general issues. Surprisingly participants
had little information on identification of Caspian Seals among other Pinnipeds
but they had good knowledge on conservation issues and threats to the only Mammal
species of the largest lake on earth.
22 participants –mostly volunteer graduates in Marnie Biology and Environmental
Sciences- attended this workshop and shared their views on research and conservation
of the Caspian Seal with others. The workshop was divided into 2 parts, jointly
taught by Ms. Dilmaghani and Ms. Neinavaz. Firstly major biological and ecological
information on the Caspian Seal and secondly quantification and elimination of threats
to the species was discussed while the conservation efforts were mentioned meanwhile.
