16 school students from Tehran attended a rural life and a National Park visit for
four days.
Girl and boy students, 8 to 11 years old, of Communal School of Tehran visited a
unique Biosphere reserves and largest natural reserve in Iran along with an experience
of attending in classes of a local school for few days. Indeed the team enjoyed
exploring the Qaleh'bala village and adjacent attractions with local guides of this
desert oasis of Touran National Park.
Basic biological and ecological information on Mammals and Birds species of arid
environment was the first lesson to the students as well as the differences of cheetah
and leopard, two largest carnivores of Touran reserve and among the most endangered
species of Iran. Observation of Onagers (Persian wild ass) with binoculars was the
most joyful part of their field trip and they were honored to see one of the rarest
species of the world. Some notes on different tracks and signs of wildlife were
the next lesson in the field which could be useful in their next field surveys too.
On the next days they were greeted by students of the Qaleh'bala school and enjoyed
jointly managed classes with the village classmates. Visiting textile handicrafts
making (Taneh), preparing crop fields and making special breads and cookies were
other, once for life, experiences for these students. Indeed they bought hand-made
souvenirs to support the local community economy and values. At last students said
fare well to the warm-blooded villagers of Qaleh'bala with the hope of next visits
to this magnificent cultural and natural heritage of Iran.
