Stranding network for Marine mammals
Marine mammals stranding network in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea by the deputy of marine
environment of Department of Environment of Iran and plan for the land society will
be established . The purpose of launching the network is to establish sensitivity
among the local people towards life and death of marine mammals and formation of
rescue teams when stranding events happen.
In the southern coasts of Iran, every year significant numbers of dolphin and whales
strand or their carcasses comes to coasts. If local people or sailors have information
about these events , they could inform officials and eventually prevent casualties.
This project will begin with training people in 150 points in the south of the country
and in the next step the rescue teams will form among of interested people.
Last year the plan for the Land society had some pilot activities in Qeshm Island
which had good results, and now this plan will be implemented by deputy of marine
environment of Department of Environment with plan for the Land society cooperation
throughout the coastal areas of southern Iran.
