Project Details & Results
1- Use camera-traps to confirm presence/absence, obtain information on sex/age structure
and estimate population size and relative abundance.
2- Study leopard diet on a basis of fecal analysis.
3- Increase public awareness in the neighboring communities to reduce leopard and
preys poaching by holding workshops and festivals and disseminating published materials
(booklets, posters, calendars) and getting support from local communities
4- Educate younger generation and enthusiasts in conservation of Persian Leopard
and train conservation staff (game wardens and locals) in leopard research, monitoring
and conservation.
5- Collect scat samples for non-invasive molecular methods to identify animal sex,
genetic variation, population size and relatedness
6- Study ecology of the competitor carnivores (wolf and hyaena) and main prey species
(wild goat, wild sheep, wild boar and Indian crested porcupine) in leopard habitats.
7- Capacity-building to promote ecotourism-based sustainable development of local
communities by choosing the Persian leopard as a symbol of environmental conservation
